Our research

Interprofessional research aims to implement and evaluate interprofessional education and collaborative practice in tertiary education contexts and in healthcare contexts. This can be achieved through:

  • Developing and advancing the national IPECP research agenda
  • Co-creating IPECP research priorities and projects with a range of stakeholders
  • Strengthening IPECP research capacity, methods and theories
  • Translating research findings into policy and practice, to advance IPECP for improved health outcomes

AUT Interprofessional Research Cluster

AUT Interprofessional Research Cluster has been established to provide a unique point of departure from, while collaborating with, other AUT research centres. The AUT Interprofessional Research Cluster is affiliated to the National Centre of Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (NCIPECP) and focuses on research activity that elevates the profile of IPECP in the university.

Summary

AUT Research Cluster has a number of IPECP focused research projects.

  • Enablers and barriers of an intermediate semester on the development of interprofessional practice capability in health science student.
    • Impact of an intermediate semester on student choice of discipline and subsequent success and progression through an undergraduate BHSc programme.
  • Pilot of an interprofessional collaborative practice pathway at AUT Integrated Health.

Research opportunities

Some of our possible future projects:

  • Exploring the experience and understanding of interprofessional education (IPE) facilitators in the Interprofessional Learning Zone (IPLZ) in preparing to teach IPE.
  • Exploring how and in what ways the Interprofessional Moving and Handling unit prepares graduates for collaborative practice.
  • What do/should the characteristics of Aotearoa New Zealand’s future workforce look like?
  • Interprofessional technology development
  • Development and implementation of Mà„tauranga Mà„ori into the IPLZ
